I remember the days when I was much younger and when I compare them with the present, I have much cause for optimism. I think India is going in the right direction and we Indians will find our day in the Sun in the not too distant future.

What makes me confident of that. Well just some of the things are:

1. The economics: Yes, that's the first and the foremost and is a reason for positive changes in several other aspects. The economics is looking up, has been doing so since the 80s when we finally started looking up from our "Hindu rate of growth". The following charts should explain that clearly.

These charts basically show graphically what is obvious to the economists and anyone with a calculator. It was first brought to the attention of the world by the BRIC report by Goldman Sachs. Not many people took it seriously then. India has managed to outperform this report and the new report by the same Goldman Sachs is even more bullish on India. It now predicts that India will overtake USA by 2050.

The upturn in the economic fortunes of India has an incredible impact on the society in several other ways. We will discuss some of them in the next sections.

Mr. Manmohan Singh, our Prime Minister and the architect of our econmic reforms put it aptly when he said that two decades of 6% growth have changed India completely and the next few decades of even higher growth will change it beyong recognition. We can see that all around us.
